EVEN MORE CATS IN THE SINK

Feline Sink Sitters
I always thought my cat Coco-Puff was the ONLY cat that enjoyed laying in the bathroom sink for hours on end. She looks so adorable camped out in there, with water dripping on her fur.
But how can she be comfortable? Wouldn't a nice soft bed be much more comfortable? A hard cold porcelain sink does not look very comfortable to me!
Then again, I am not a cat.
But Coco-Puff loves laying in the sink. She never purrs so loudly as she does in the sink. The sink makes her happy!
Why? Probably because she has learned, sooner or later, everyone will pay a visit to that particular room - hence, paying a visit to her in the sink, as well.
She'll be petted and exclaimed over..."Oh, look at Coco-Puff in the sink! She looks so cute!" and maybe, as an added bonus, she'll even be granted a relaxing grooming session, and then, to top it all off, a nice cool drink of water.
What more could any one ask of a nap location?
And lately, we have even taken to laying down a pink towel for her to lay on in the sink. Talk about spoiled! Sometimes if the pink towel is not there, she will actually walk over to where it is hanging on the towel bar, look up at it, and MEOW!
(Who says cats can't communicate? When it comes to what they WANT, trust me, they can communicate).
Admittedly, it 's not very convenient brushing my teeth with a cat clogging up the sink. But it's just so darn cute, I don't mind the inconvenience of walking over to the kitchen sink and continuing my chore there.
Well ,it turns out that Coco-Puff is NOT so unique with her sink sitting addiction. I checked online, and apparently, there are lots of cats have the same addiction...(sorry Coco-Puff)!
How could I have been so clueless about this?
In fact, there are so many sink sitting felines, it's practically become a national and international phenomenon!
Is this a new thing? Has some celebrity cat been spreading the word that sink-sitting is the latest trend - so now cats everywhere have to get on board?
No, I doubt it. Cats are definitely not the type to care about following the crowd.
Dogs? Maybe.
Cats? No.
So why do they like it so much? Has there been any scientific research on this all-important issue? I could find no cats who would agree to be interviewed. They're probably all too busy sittiing in sinks.
It appears that they prefer to remain inscrutable on this subject. That's a cat for you!
However, we can wager some guesses as to why this hard porcelain perch is so inviting to them.
The sink provides a nice cozy snug fit for a cat's body...especially round sinks, which adhere purrr-fectly to the contours of a cat's shape.
On a hot day, the cool porcelain of the sink feels nice and chill on their bodies.
The sink provides a handy place to grab a drink of water...that's a no-brainer, even for us humans! Plus it has been proven that cats prefer to drink water that is moving; perhaps because it reminds them of fresh stream water, as opposed to stagnant pond water which would harbor bacteria...or stagnant cat bowl water!
But I still maintain that the sink is so popular, because the cat is sure to get attention when he or she chooses to lay in this particular spot. And even though cats may not like to admit it (because, after all, they always look down their noses at dogs for this sort of thing) they DO LOVE TO GET ATTENTION!

Ha-ha, funny! Love the fat cat in the sink picture! That would be my cat!
CUTE!!!!!! Love it! So much!
You should make a coffee table book!
hey there! photos are charming!
So cute...aren't cats the best??
Great captions with all the wonderful photos. I would on many occasions "cat sit" for a friend. I was always reminded that I must leave the bathroom sink water trickling just a bit, for weeks at a time, for "BJ." This no doubt caused a much higher water bill. But it didn't matter when it came to BJ's contentment and happiness. Neither of my three cats go in the sinks. I have other issues like pulling the bread out of the basket on the kitchen table then jumping in and which cat can get closest to the back of my laptop to feel the warmth. Thanks for a fun read!

My cats when they were little used to hang out in the bathroom sink, and have boxing matches. Pretty cute. The sink does have a hairline crack resulting from thier play.
